Sublime Intervention
Installation Proposal

This proposal was designed through a team consisting of myself and Uriel Lopez, Atelier [UR].  Sublime Intervention is a dynamic space constructed primarily from plywood, UV reactive paint, and the efforts of SCIARC's participating student body.  Atelier [AR]'s installation brings into question the proportions of sublime architecture and contemporary architecture's treatment of surface to mis-register, obscure, and imply such proportions.

Sublime intervention critiques this condition by focusing on tangible and visually perceived space.  The matte black complex triangulated surfaces which create wall and ceilings produce dynamic narrowing and widening conditions.  Large spaces constrict to "rabbit hole" proportions and back to comfortable sizes.  Meanwhile, high contrast patterning achieved by UV activated paint creates delineations that imply spaces different than what physically occurs.

In this way, two readings can be derived from experiencing Sublime Intervention.  This duality is Atelier [UR]'s proposal for a method of controlling space and proportion in a way independent of the physical space in which an architecture occurs.
